The board of directors consists of experts from the fields of renewable energy, power generation, finance, corporate affairs and project management. The company employs a dedicated team of professional staff and has wider support from specialist sub-contractors and associate companies. The GHR team has over 130 years combined of electrical engineering and construction project management experience. The development team has over 15 years of environmental management and hydrology experience. GHR also has extensive knowledge of project finance and financial management, with over 50 years combined experience.
Paul Capell, Chairman, has 30 years’ experience across the renewable energy, oil and gas and water sectors and has worked at executive level for companies including United Utilities, Veolia, Weir Group and Trafalgar John Brown. He is a founding director and CEO of EIDC – a leading waste to energy development business. He is Non-Executive Chairman of Aquamarine Power Ltd. and Aerothermal Group PLC.
Ian Cartwright, Managing Director, is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and has made a career in renewable energy delivery in Scotland having been instrumental in building up and selling the family owned business J S Cartwright and Company, to Scottish Hydro Contracting in 1999, subsequently developing Scottish Hydro Contracting’s renewable energy business into a multi million pound division.
Alasdair Miller, Finance Director, is a Chartered Accountant with experience of operational roles in the Construction and Property Development sectors, and transaction experience in banking and private equity. He is responsible for financial management and funding strategy for the company and its schemes.
Alex Reading, Development Director, studied Mechanical Engineering at Newcastle University before spending seven years in the British Army. He is responsible for all aspects of the technical, hydrological, environmental, social and commercial appraisal of Green Highland Renewables' portfolio of hydro schemes.
Jim Wilson, Non-Executive Director, is a Chartered Engineer and has over 32 years experience in the UK energy supply industry and is the Investment Manager for SSE's corporate venture unit, SSE Ventures. During his career with SSE Jim has specialised in Electrical Transmission and Distribution including the connection of renewable energy projects. Jim is also a non-executive director of Burntisland Fabrications and Aquamarine Power.
Tony Robison, Non-Executive Director, is a Chartered Accountant and a principal at SEP where he focuses the secondary investments of the Environmental Energies Fund. He has significant fundraising and M&A experience and has worked with numerous entrepreneurs in dynamic environments.
Miranda Lindsay, Company Secretary, qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in audit, tax and Corporate Finance for eight years followed by many years managing rural businesses in Scotland. She was formerly on the Board of the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association and was its representative on the Freshwater Fisheries Forum.
Niall Graham-Campbell, Prospecting Consultant, has worked in the Scottish rural market for the last forty years. He brings extensive experience to Green Highland Renewables on all matters associated with land ownership, contracts and licensing.
Dr. Mairead Murnion, Hydro Development Manager, has an MSc in renewable energy specialising in hydro and a PhD in Cell Biology and has experience in managing community renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and expertise in business operational efficiency.
Jayson Drummond, Hydro Development Manager, has a degree in Environmental Science and is responsible for the environmental screening and scoping of potential hydro schemes as well as the management of the environmental assessments and their interaction with the overall design of the schemes.
Alessandro Davitti, Hydro Development Engineer, has a BEng in Civil Engineering and a MEng in Water Engineering, both achieved at Politecnico of Milan (Italy). Following his final dissertation on small run-of-river hydro schemes, he joined CESI Ricerca SpA for a year. At GHR he contributes to the hydro development within the Forestry Commission Estate.
Anna Douglas, Development Programme Manager, has an MA in Geography and an MSC in Industrial Environmental Management. With over eight years experience working for the environmental regulator SEPA, as well as working as an environmental consultant and a rural community development worker, Anna joined GHR in 2013 to take the development programme to financial close.
Colin Gilmour, Construction Project Manager, is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 25 years experience in the UK construction industry. He previously spent 15 years with the Halcrow Group, latterly as Associate Director, responsible for the management of a 30 strong team working on Scottish Water’s capital investment programme. Prior to that he spent time in New Zealand with Timaru District Council, and previously with Strathclyde Regional Council and Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd.
Rob Smith, Consultant Project Manager, is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 25 years experience in the construction industry. As a Project Manager he has worked on a variety of projects in UK and abroad with W.A Fairhurst, Mobil Oil, BP, Stannifer Developments and Kilmartin Property Group.
George Cameron, Operations & Maintenance Manager, is an Electrical and Electronic Engineer and was formerly site electrical engineer with LifeScan Scotland Ltd where he was responsible for all site electrical services. Prior to that his career included work for Hydro Contracting and J S Cartwright, where he had significant involvement in a variety of hydro generation projects, Macgregor Engineering and A.I. Welders Ltd
Lesley Macleod, Head of Project Finance and Administration, was formerly with JS Cartwright and Hydro Contracting. For the last 4½ years she held the position of District Contracts Manager being responsible for the operation of an electrical contracting profit centre.
Mairi Smaile, Financial Administrator, studied Mathematics and Celtic Studies at University and brings many years of experience of finance and administration from running a variety of family businesses.
